Hey Seacoasters!
Well this will be the last update for 2008. This
year has flown by but we have seen some great
things happen this year. If you get a chance,
drop me an email and give me some of your best
memories of Seacoast in 2008. What are the
messages that impacted you the most? What changes
occurred in your life this year? Hopefully you have
seen things, learned things, and done things this
year through Seacoast that you wouldn't have
otherwise. Let us know what they are!
Just a couple of things to update you on; First,
we will not be having any New Years eve services
or programs. Please enjoy the holiday with your
families and friends. This coming Sunday I will
be sharing the vision for our campus in 2009. Be
sure to be there and bring someone with you!
Second, we are gearing up for another semester of
Financial Peace University! Be sure and sign up or
contact Vic Beaver at [email protected] for
more information.
Lastly, many of you have heard that Melinda
Knowles mother passed away this past week. She
would like me to pass on the information on the
services for her mother to you. I know she would
appreciate some of her Seacoast family coming out
to support her in this tough time. The Visitation
will be from 6-8pm at the Cumby Funeral Home on
Eastchester in High Point Monday night. Then, the
funeral will be held at Tuesday at 11am at
Jamestown United Methodist Church.
I hope you all will have a happy and safe New Year!
I have big expectations for what God wants to do in
us and through us here at Seacoast in '09! See you
Sunday!

So hard to believe we just have two days left. We showed Brent & Megan's video at all of the Bethany services today, and many of our team members teared up at the realization that the trip is coming to a close. The days have been long and challenging, but we've been so blessed to be here and aren't quite ready to leave Sri Lanka.
It's been awesome getting to know members of Bethany and develop friendships with them. Thank goodness for facebook so we can keep in touch. :)
This morning the team split into four groups to visit four Bethany churches. In Kadawatha, we learned that just 8 years ago the churches were under heavy persecution--many church buildings were set on fire by locals who didn't want them in their communities. The pastor we spoke with shared that he was stabbed in the arm when he and his family began setting up a church in Kadawatha, but now--a year and a half later--they're continuing to minister to the people in their community and seeing the church grow.
This evening we attended the English service at the main Bethany campus before getting dinner at a Sri Lankan buffet with Pastor Dishan and members of the Bethany team whom we've worked with and befriended throughout the trip.
We're getting an earlier night before we begin our last (and longest) day of clinics tomorrow. So far we've seen around 250 patients and given away around 700 glasses! It's definitely been wonderful to have the opportunity to not only help with physical needs but also pray with patients and extend Jesus' love and hope.
In addition to the medical clinics, we will be conducing optometry clinics and providing free eye glasses for those in Sri Lanka. Last year, the team took approximately 500 pairs of glasses to Sri Lanka. This year we wanted to double that by collecting 1000, and God has definitely surpassed our goal!
With the help of friends, family and coworkers, over 1200 pairs of glasses were collected by the Thacker and Mayhorn families in West Virginia! We can't thank them enough for their help with this.
We are still awaiting a total count on the glasses, but it looks like we will have well over 2000 pairs of glasses for the trip! Praise be to God and may He receive all the glory in this!
I have some picture from our very fun “Kick Off Sunday” it was a great day for all football fans and honestly I love tailgating before church. We collected food for Harvest Hope food bank with the Carolina vs. Clemson food drive. Carolina did win so you Clemson fans need to invite some of your friends so your presents is a little stronger come November.
What a team of small group leaders you got to meet. These people have a passion to see you connected and growing in your faith. So if you haven’t connected to a small group yet let us help you do that. Feel free to call the office 419-1607, pickup the group information you need at the small group center, or from the web page go to small groups and click "Find a Group" for a up to date list.
