Week 4:
The Resurrection:
The Deal Breaker
Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22:37 (NIV)
Why is the resurrection important?
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile 1 Corinthians 15:17
Before we can look at the resurrection we have to answer one question:
Did Jesus actually die on the cross?
And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:44
As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. Luke 23:26
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. John 19:34-35
The medical science of our day proves without a doubt that Jesus was dead when He was taken off of the cross.
The Next Big Question:
What happened to the body?
So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" John 20:2
Important things to consider:
All accounts of the finding of the tomb use women as the first finders.
The tomb was guarded and sealed (Matthew 27: 62-64)
There was in fact, an empty tomb… Anyone could have disproved the claims.
There were many witnesses who physically saw Jesus after the resurrection.
No one ever produced a body or an explanation
Even "Doubting Thomas’" life was changed.
Closing Thought:
We have presented a lot of evidence and history regarding the Bible and Jesus. Now you have to decide what to do with it.
