Care baskets

For our Youth serve project we decided to put together baskets of goodies to put in waiting rooms of hospitals.  They were filled with juice, waters, cookies, chips and toys for the kids. Blog Blog2 We took 22 baskets to Providence and Richland hospitals and deposited some in each waiting room. Our youth throughly enjoyed it and fun was had by all. Here are a few pics of our project. Overall I think it was a big success and blessing to families of patients. We got lots of thank you's and lots of smiles. It truly was a blessing to all involved.Blog_3 Blog4

New series, Life hurts, God heals! Week 1

    Life Hurts God Heals

Week 1:

Addictions

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

1. What does it mean to have an addiction?

A compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance.

2. An addiction is the unintended consequence of other choices.

No one grows up wanting to be a junky!

Why do we become addicted?

Because we are trying to fill a hole in our lives with something.

Because we are trying to cover up pain in our lives.

(Alcohol, drugs, food, sex, pornography etc)

The good news about addictions:

God wants us to be free!

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Breaking the cycle:

1. Admit that we need God’s help.

2. Find a friend and have them hold you accountable.

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

3. Stay away!!!

Remember Joseph!

Closing thought:

There are all kinds of "hurts’ that we experience in life, the best way to deal with them is not to turn to a drink, or other addiction, but to run to the Father.

"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12

Week 4:

The Resurrection:

The Deal Breaker

Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22:37 (NIV)

Why is the resurrection important?

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile 1 Corinthians 15:17

Before we can look at the resurrection we have to answer one question:

Did Jesus actually die on the cross?

And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:44

As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. Luke 23:26

Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. John 19:34-35

The medical science of our day proves without a doubt that Jesus was dead when He was taken off of the cross.

The Next Big Question:

What happened to the body?

So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" John 20:2

Important things to consider:

All accounts of the finding of the tomb use women as the first finders.

The tomb was guarded and sealed (Matthew 27: 62-64)

There was in fact, an empty tomb… Anyone could have disproved the claims.

There were many witnesses who physically saw Jesus after the resurrection.

No one ever produced a body or an explanation

Even "Doubting Thomas’" life was changed.

Closing Thought:

We have presented a lot of evidence and history regarding the Bible and Jesus. Now you have to decide what to do with it.

C.S.I.

Week 3:

Jesus: From Birth to Death.

Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22:37 (NIV)

The argument: "Historically it is quite doubtful whether Christ ever existed at all, and if he did we do not know anything about Him" (Bertrand Russell: "Why I Am Not A Christian" , 16)

The starting point:

Questions that have to be answered!

1. Did Jesus exist?

For that answer we have to look to history:

"Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; and the tribe of Christians so named from him are not extinct at this day" (Josephus: Antiquities, XVIII, 33)

2. The virgin birth. What’s up with that?

Mary "who was the descendant of princes and governors, played the harlot with carpenters" (b. Sanh. 106a)

3. Is the crucifiction fiction?

Closing Thought:

History proves without a doubt that Jesus of Nazareth existed. We can rest assured in the reliability of the New Testament accounts of His existence.

"the persons commonly called Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius: but the pernicious superstition, repressed for a time, broke out again, not only through Judea, where the mischief originated, but through the city of Rome also. (Cornelius Tacitus: Annals XV.44) (This is just one example! There are many others who historically verify that Jesus was Crucified)

Week 2 of C.S.I

C.S.I.

Week 2:

If God Is Real Then…

Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22:37 (NIV)

what about evolution???

"

Science is the search for the truth." 2 time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling

Problems with evolution:

1. Fossils. The Cambrian period: "The Biological Big Bang"

2. The complexity issue. Think about the universe!

3. The programming factor. DNA

4. The causality principle. Who set this ball into motion?

why do bad things happen??

Some things happen because of peoples’ choices.

Virgina tech, drunk drivers, etc…

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Genesis 3:6

Some things just happen...

Natural disasters etc…

Closing Thought:

We may always have questions about where we have come from, we may never forget what has happened to us in the past, and we may never know for sure what is going to happen to us in the future…. But we can always know that God is with us.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28)NIV

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39) NIV

Week 1 Of C.S.I

C.S.I.

Week 1:

The Bible: Fact or Fiction?

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22:37 (NIV)

"A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education." Theodore Roosevelt

The first thing we need to realize about the Bible is that it is UNIQUE.

1

: being the only one 2 a : being without a like or equal 3

:

UNUSUAL

Ways that the Bible is unique:

The way that it is CONNECTED.

> Written in over a 1500 yr span > Written by more than 40 different authors

> Written on 3 different continents > Written in 3 different languages

> Yet over and over again the same story is presented. God’s redemption of man.

The way that it is CIRCULATED.

>

>

The Bible has been translated into more than 2,200 languages

The way it has SURVIVED.

>

Time: It has been handed down for thousands of years, first orally, through memorization, and then in writing.
In 1998 the number of Bibles circulated around the world was 585,023,708

> Written in different places > Written through different moods

>

> Criticism: Archeology has proven the historical accuracy of the bible, time and time again.

Persecution: Rulers have tried banning, burning, and destroying it, but it has remained.

In it’s TEACHING.

>

Prophecy: Events were written about Christ Hundreds of years before He was born.

> History: Remarkably accurate in the description of events, places, and people.

>

Character: Doesn’t shy away from exposing it’s own

In it’s influence on CIVILIZATION.

>

No other book is more embraced and at the same time hated.

But the big question is… Is the Bible RELIABLE?

Is what we are reading really what was originally written down?

The answer: ABSOLUTELY!!

CLOSING QUESTION:

We have seen that the Bible is unique, that it is obviously an amazing book… But, is it the word of God?
