iCare Project

What an awesome expression of love was poured out on the hearts of two special ladies this past weekend as Irmo launched the iCare Project. I know they will never be the same because of the service of 25 men, women and children this past Saturday.

Serving others is at the heart of the message of Jesus. This coming Thursday is the day when the church celebrates the last supper Jesus spent with His disciples . During that celebration, Jesus did the most amazing thing when he kneeled down and washed the disciples feet. What he did that day has echoed down the halls of time to send a message to all His followers that even GOD feels drawn to serve others. He didn't have to do it, but it was in His heart to serve others. Jesus said it like this in Mark 10

43  ...Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
I thank those of you who participated for following the example of Jesus by serving others unselfishly this past Saturday. Let me share just a few lines from emails I have received from these ladies.
Dear Pastor Jeff,
Thank you and your wonderful members ,for the blessing you give to my family and me. We look forward to visiting your church.
Mrs. Betty

Dear iCare Team,
I have been involved in ministry for nearly 30 years  and never have I had anything like this happen and I am so grateful to the iCare Team and to you as our Pastor for doing this for us.  I learned that sometimes I just need help and this is one of those times. I also felt so loved and cared for--sometimes when you are single you feel like if you don't do things for yourself, they won't get done and that can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Thank you iCare team!

Drop & Shop

122596283122209623 122211775_2 122212227_3 122589547 Over 100 volunteers came out to serve the Irmo community on a Sunday and Wednesday in December.  The sea of red t-shirts was quite impressive as men and women showed up to wrap presents and provide a fun night out for kids!  It's hard to say who had more fun as new people to Seacoast were able to connect through serving and brush up on their foosball skills at the same time!
Although we were able to send home about 2,000 invites through the children in 3 local elementary schools, you can't beat the impact of the personal evangelism plan!  Coworkers, neighbors and friends of our campus dropped their children off and took tours of our facility with promises to come back after seeing the wide smiles on their children's faces!

Chili Cookoff Results

Almost 200 turned out to see who could test the Tums to the limit at our 3rd annual chili cook-off.  The small groups came out in full force to rally back for Fall and pulled out some serious competition.  The winners were:

Best Team Spirit: Chucks Angels  (Chuck Ward, Sandra Penland, Hazel Holcombe & Carol Barrett and other supporters)  The white angel costumes with wings really was over the top!  (Only an angel could wear white to a chili cook-off!)

Hottest Chili:  Carl Thompson - Smokin hot chili! Hands down winner! Did he have a permit for those peppers and were they imported?

Best Fix-ins (and as a side result, best sore loser) The student ministry led by Todd Bain's multiple attempts, uh, recipes, to reclaim his championship trophy from last year.  We've never seen so many varieties of cheese and hot sauce as condiments, one might have been confused as to which competition they were perhaps entering...

Best Alternative - White chili - Tonya Hayes, why, it was sooooo good, you'd think it was Paula Dean's recipe!

And the surprise upset of the evening went to Todd Vollertsen and Tim Derrick and their group as the BEST CHILI (and dessert too, if you tasted the ooey gooey butter dessert).  Congratulations!

Carly is still looking for the remains of her banana pudding dish, last seen with a spoon and Patrick Connelly...please report any sightings...return back, pictures to come soon!

Asheville Campus Build Day

It's way too cool in the mountains to get good sweaty pictures so we moved the build day for the new Asheville Campus to Irmo on the hottest weekend in 40 years... a nice 107 degrees!  Teams from Asheville, Columbia, Irmo and Central Support all came and gave their all to knock out a project list for children's ministry and first touch!  Despite the heat, it was very COOL!100_1907 100_1908_2 100_1917 100_1919 100_1920 100_1921 100_1915 100_1913 100_1916

5 Love Languages Lake Day

Are you and your spouse speaking the same language? People express and receive love in different ways.  Dr. Gary Chapman identifies these as the five languages of love:

Quality Time · Words of Affirmation · Gifts · Acts of Service  · Physical Touch

If you express love in a way your spouse doesn't understand he or she won’t realize you’ve expressed your love at all.  The problem is that you’re speaking two different languages.  Join us for this fun and relaxing marriage enrichment “mini retreat” designed for couples who are dating, engaged, newly married or have been married for years!

Saturday, June 23rd 3-9 p.m.  Boating, Fellowship, Dinner Cookout, Video Teaching, Guided Evaluations to Assess your Love Language

This Day is Sponsered by Seacoast Irmo Small Group Ministry and is Free to all who attend, however Registration is Required and Ends, Sunday June 17th.  To Register, either e-mail angelapeterson@seacoast.org or complete a Connect Card on Sunday, write in "5 Love Languages"  and drop it in the box.

Happy Mothers Day!, Love Dad

Today is Mothers Day. That makes it a very special day.  Our women were honored for the unique ways that God made them special and for the calling and accomplishment of raising raising children and grandchildren in this world.  We gifted them with a lovely boxed candle and treated them to quiche, fresh fruit and pastries with their normal donuts and coffee this morning. Just little touches to say how much we respect, honor and appreciate all you do.  And then something else happened....Pastor Jeff and a group of 28 men replaced the mothers who normally serve in our children's ministry!  They made crafts with the children (if you can operate a caulk gun, you can glue ribbon to a box!), joined in worship and ran the regular, easy to run but extremely impactful children's ministry we do each week!  We called them "Special Forces" and they truly took our campus by storm...here's the proof:
